Driving To Louisville - Cousins' Dinner - The Culbertson Mansion
Thursday Kim and I headed out from Columbus with Louisville as our destination and the GPS said we should arrive a little after 3 pm. We stopped for lunch, about half way - just north of Cincinnati and when I looked at the GPS it was going to take us off the Interstate. I've been to Louisville MANY times and I know that's not right so I ignored the directions, but right away we came to standstill traffic. We followed the re-routing, and it got us back to I-71 but it was still closed so we had to drive all the way to Lexiington and then on to Louisville....a detour of more than an hour and a half. Fortunately the rain stopped just short of Cincinnati so the drive was picturesque, but long....
Both Keith and Sue & Dan had already arrived at our Bed & Breakfast and they raved about it. We met them in the lobby and took our bags up to the top floor and the "General Lawton Suite" before heading out immediately to meet my cousins who were at what Roz termed a "dive bar" but it was a very cool neighborhood bar & grill with lots of character.
About 10 pm we returned to the Culbertson Mansion and I started firing off pictures
Dan led me down the "secret staircase" which could go up to our room, but down in the basement was a "speak-easy" bar. We hung out here every day.
After Kim & Keith playing pool and Sue, Dan & I having a nightcap we headed upstairs to bed, excited for the first full day of our adventure at the Breeders' Cup.
